Marie Venables: A Speaker's Studio organisational member

Marie is working on a presentation to a United Nations committee. The subject is the economic structure of the new Iraq with a particular emphasis on ownership of the country’s resources.

Her Training Department, acknowledging the importance of the presentation, have authorised three hours coaching time with a review.

Marie uses the Speaker’s Studio Online to plan the presentation, and since she knows her subject, at first she needs no help, other than that offered through the library or the process itself.

With clear objectives and a mass of information collected, in Stage 3 of the planning model, she is required to impose a structure and logic to the presentation.

Most typically at this point, mistakes are made such as:

• Too many/few stages
• Too much information or too many points
• Too much time spent on areas of little importance
